It looks like three places in Nebraska have been choosen to host a biocontrol agent for saltcedar, a noxious weed in Nebraska and many other neighboring states.
The Diorabda beetle is a defoliating insect that removes the leaf growth of mature saltcedar trees. There has been several other releases in previous years in the Southwest and neighboring states, but this is the first year for APHIS to release the beetle in Nebraska.
The results of the test plots show much promise and we look forward to hearing more about the results of the Nebraska test in future years. Stay tuned for more information as we receive it and updates.
